The monitor installations described below are examples of the kinds of applications our product can be utilized in.

1. An owner maintained power yacht

The owner of a 35 foot Sport Fisherman lives 150 miles inland from the yacht's base of operation. The owner requires a reliable and cost-effective solution to monitor equipment and critical systems on board the yacht from home.

Typical Monitored Systems:

For primary connectivity and alarm notification, the customer chose to use the marina's WiFi Internet service provider network. Upon alarming, the Bosun™ will send an alarm message to both the customer's home computer, and a text message to the owner's cellular phone. This customer also takes advantage of the Bosun™'s web interface to view the yacht and control selected equipment. As a backup for marina network failure the owner chose a cellular provider wireless data plan on a per use basis. The owner has Security in knowing the condition of the yacht at all times.

2. A professionally maintained sailing yacht

The extensive business demands on the owner of a 45 foot sailing yacht don't allow time to personally maintain the yacht. The owner chose a professional management company paired with the Bosun™ monitor equipment to keep the yacht secure. Installing a Bosun™ monitoring system provides real time system condition and alarm information to the management company. The data logging and charting function allow the management company to notice degrading equipment and repair it before it fails. The owner has the security of knowing the yacht is always ready for use.

Typical Monitored Parameters:

  • Unauthorized yacht movement based on high differential GPS
  • Intrusion alarm on hatches with ultrasonic sensor in main salon
  • Battery bank summary alarm
  • Air Conditioning seawater pump flow and summary alarm (2 AC units)
  • Shore power supply on/off

  • Propane and gas fume detector
  • Fire and smoke alarm
  • 1 IP (WEB) Camera in main salon

For connectivity and alarm notification, the customer chose to use a cellular provider broadband data plan. Upon alarming, the Bosun™ will send an alarm message to the management company via email and a text message to the owner's cellular phone. The local management service can check the status of all Bosun™ equipped yachts they manage by directing a web browser to the proper Bosun™. This owner chose to have the yacht professionally managed. All alarms and notifications are routed to the yacht management company with summary signals to the owner.

3. Marina Slip Minder™ Application

A Marina maintains a total of 580 slips, 3 unmanned buildings and service areas in a downtown location. All slips are within a one half-mile radius but they are over a mile round trip drive. This customer needs to know the status of the marina physical plant, monitor access points and take input from the Bosun™ equipped yachts in the marina. For this customer, one monitor can be installed in each marina recreation building (kitchen, lounge, bathrooms and storage) and two Slip Minder™'s monitoring input from piers and yachts to marina operations center. The operations center can also monitoring each Bosun™ equipped yacht in the marina. Without Slip Minder™ installed the marina security and service technicians have to drive to each pier to check on the status of critical equipment and had no way to monitor the status of the yachts moored at the marina's slips.

Items monitored in the marina:

  • Oily waste tank level and pump out station summary alarm
  • Holding tank pump out station summary alarm
  • Utility power on/off
  • Emergency generator on/off
  • Generator fuel level
  • Pier access gate openings for 8 piers
  • 10 IP cameras. (cameras automatically train on a Bosun™ equipped yachts when an alarm condition exits)
  • 3 Recreation buildings temperature, humidity and HVAC system summary alarms.
  • Recreation building access, smoke and fire

For notification method, the Slip Minder™ uses a primary and a back-up method to notify the marina's Operations Center. Upon alarm, the Slip Minder™ uses the marina's WiFi wireless Internet service provider, then sends a notification over the Internet to the Operations Center. If this notification method is unsuccessful, the Slip Minder™ will dial-up (via modem and telephone line F connection), a receiving modem at the operations center and deliver the message. Depending on the type of alarm, an alert can also be sent to up to 16 different pager numbers. The Slip Minder™ also allows real-time monitoring, historical charts and graphs, and reconfiguration of the sensing equipment's alarm thresholds through any web enabled browser. Best of all, it can be done from anywhere in the world with only an Internet connection and web browser! After installing a Slip Minder™ at each location, the marina operator can reduce overhead dramatically and improved their reporting capabilities from each location. Since each location is now monitored with a Slip Minder™, the marina staff is no longer required to manually check site status. The Slip Minder™ allows all 580 sites to communicate with one centralized operations center and provide network, cellular, and pager alarm notification.
